Month-by-month planning for Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini and mountain pilgrimage routes.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Best Time to Visit Nepal from India

There is no single best month for every Nepal trip. Kathmandu and Pokhara can be visited across much of the year; Chitwan and Lumbini are hotter in the Terai; and Muktinath or Mustang travel needs more respect for mountain weather. Nepal Tourism Board describes five seasons and notes that the clearest post-monsoon skies are commonly found in October and November, while spring is another major travel season. Instead of giving one generic answer, this guide matches the month to the route you actually want to travel.

Oct–NovClearest post-monsoon skies for many routes
SpringStrong second season, especially for hills/trekking
Jun–SepMonsoon affects roads and visibility
WinterGood for cities/lowlands; colder at altitude

Kathmandu and Pokhara

These cities can work across much of the year, but visibility and rain change the experience. October–November is attractive for clear mountain views; winter can still be pleasant in the daytime.

Chitwan, Lumbini and Janakpur

These Terai destinations are much hotter in summer than Kathmandu or Pokhara. Winter is milder and often easier for sightseeing.

Muktinath and Mustang

Altitude and mountain weather matter more than the calendar headline. Build buffer into the route and confirm current access conditions before departure.
